Youth Civic Entrepreneurs are young people between the ages of 13 and 19 who create and operate a business to solve a civic problem or fill a need in their community or the world.

Transforming dreams into careers through personalized coaching and strategic guidance
I have known Jane since 1981, when she first began attending (for 10 summers) teacher training in gifted education at the University of Connecticut. In fact, I served on Jane's dissertation committee at which time she wrote (and later published) a book to help teachers guide students to successfully complete inquiry-based studies, resulting in the development of professional, high-quality products and services. As a teacher of students for 11 years, her gifted program in Mountain Brook, Alabama was recognized as an outstanding model for the Southeastern United States. Jane epitomizes the construct of 'servant leader' as she continues to learn and serve others.

Dr. Jane Newman CHANGED MY LIFE through her teaching and mentoring! She is truly a phenomenon, and one of the most fascinating women I know. Whether walking along the roads of Tel Aviv, Israel studying the archaeology of Palestine or studying the pollution of the Cahaba River in Alabama, Dr. Newman guides students in experiencing learning that is engaging, challenging, and beneficial to the community and planet. As an elementary and junior high student in Dr. Newman's class (grades 3 - 8), I learned HIGH LEVEL THINKING SKILLS AND PROCESSES that I continue to use in my career and life today! Dr. Newman undoubtedly was my BEST TEACHER ever!
Dr. Newman has created and conducted research on a problem-based, service-learning system that she has implemented with thousands of students and teachers throughout her career. Her work has produced ground-breaking results in the area of student and school resiliency. Dr. Newman's work continues to bring forward a wealth of instructional knowledge with teachers and students often identified as academically at-risk in schools with low socio-economic status across the nation, state, and local area. For her service, Dr. Newman was recognized at The University of Alabama by the Council on Community Based Partnership Outstanding Faculty Service Award.

As a first generation college student, I can honestly say Dr. Newman's influence and mentorship in my academic career and life has been invaluable. I would not be where I am today without her investment and guidance in my life. However, my story is just one of many, as countless students of all ages have benefitted greatly from interaction with Dr. Newman as a teacher and mentor. Dr. Newman epitomizes the ideal higher educator, as her work seamlessly integrates the roles of teaching, research, and service, simultaneously leaving a significant impact on her students, her field, and the larger community.
